Literature 24

To begin with, I want to explain why exactly I chose this topic for my work. I have always been very interested in the Welsh way of life and culture. I was lucky to visit UK, and namely Wales and I have been enamoured of Welsh music. During all the time I have spent in Wales when on holiday there I have had the experience that music is of enormous importance to the Welsh people. The Welsh are famous for their great love of singing and many of their hymns and folk songs are well known far beyond the country's borders.

Wales is also famous for its countryside - the rugged coastline of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the wild moorland of mid Wales, and the sandstone peaks of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The capital is Cardiff, with its magnificent castle and fully restored cathedral. It has a fascinating docks area which contains many heritage sites and museums. North Wales is home to the Snowdonia National Park with Roman forts Wales has a profusion of magnificent castles, the most famous being Caernarfon, Harlech, Beaumaris and Conwy. There are many others, some are still intact, but many are romantic and give some hints of their glorious past.

So, the aim of my work is to examine aspects of Welsh life, culture, customs and history and to deal with anything pertaining to this country. This report is divided into two main chapters. The first part presents a wide-ranging look at Wales so called "Land of inspiration" and "Land of Song". The second one presents some entertaining tasks on the topic which can be used at English lessons. The aim of these tasks are to make the pupils aware of the cultural interests and the geographic and socio-political background of the countries where English is spoken; to instil in pupils an interest for the language and the culture of the English-speaking countries
