We can easily be watched by the police or local authorities not only in the Internet but also in the material world. Thanks to computerization it can be done cheaply and invisibly.

Introducing the face-recognition software helped to decrease crime rate, achieving a considerable drop in street robberies and burglaries. The system tries to recognize criminals: to match faces on cameras to a “watch list” which consists of between 100 and 150 active criminals. It shows probable matches to the employee who decides whether or not to contact the police. This business is booming.

Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) also was invented “ to provide people with a safe environment” as a police spokesperson says. Though it looks like they are just monitoring people's movements within the Square Mile in London. ANPR checks plates against live databases. Fortunately, building general databases is prohibited by the data protection rules. So they simply alert police if they are suspicious about vehicle's plate.
